What is Play Therapy?

It is not unusual for children to need some help to understand their feelings, thoughts and emotions at some time in their childhoods. As a Play Therapist, I offer a safe, confidential and caring environment to allow children to explore and learn about themselves and any stresses that they or their family may have been experiencing. I am trained to use play – which is a child’s natural form of expression – to help in the process of this understanding.

I have a “Tool Kit” of activities and equipment for the child to use, these will include:

Art – painting/drawing/collage

Storytelling

Sand tray and objects

Music; dance/movement; puppets and clay.

I work non-directively (where the child decides what to do in the session – within safe boundaries).

Our services

Individual Therapy

Individual Play Therapy provides a safe and supportive space for children to express their thoughts and feelings through play — their natural form of communication. In these one-on-one sessions, a trained therapist uses toys, art, stories, and creative activities to help children explore emotions, develop coping skills, and work through challenges at their own pace.

Play therapy can be especially helpful for children experiencing anxiety, trauma, behavioural difficulties, grief, or major life changes. Through guided play, children gain confidence, improve emotional understanding, and learn healthier ways to relate to others and the world around them.

Each session is tailored to the child’s developmental level and emotional needs, helping them feel seen, understood, and empowered to grow in a nurturing environment.

Staff Training

This interactive workshop is designed to introduce teachers and school staff to the core principles of Play Therapy and its practical applications in the classroom. Participants will gain insight into how play supports emotional expression, social development, and resilience in children.

Through engaging discussions and hands-on activities, educators will learn how to recognize the emotional needs children express through play, respond empathetically, and create supportive learning environments that foster emotional safety and growth.

The session covers:

  • Understanding the therapeutic power of play

  • Identifying emotional and behavioural cues in children

  • Practical strategies for integrating play-based approaches into daily teaching

  • Building stronger teacher–student relationships through empathy and connection

By the end of the workshop, participants will feel more confident in using play as a tool for communication and emotional support — enhancing wellbeing across the school community.

Group Therapy

Group Play Therapy brings children together in a supportive, structured setting where they can learn and grow through shared play experiences. Guided by a qualified therapist, small groups of children engage in creative activities, games, and cooperative play designed to build social skills, confidence, and emotional awareness.

In a group environment, children have the opportunity to practice communication, empathy, problem-solving, and teamwork in a safe and encouraging space. They learn how to navigate friendships, manage conflicts, and express themselves in healthy ways — all while having fun and connecting with others.

Group Play Therapy is especially beneficial for children who may struggle with social interactions, self-esteem, or emotional regulation. Each session encourages connection, understanding, and growth, helping children feel supported both individually and as part of a community.
